H. E. Carl Bildt, currently Sweden’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, has never been far from the news.

From 1991-94 he was Prime Minister of Sweden, and from 1999-2001 the UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy to the Balkans. From 1996-1997 he was the High Representative of the International Community for reconstruction and peace implementation in Bosnia and Herzegovina. From 1986-1999 he was party leader of Sweden’s Moderate Party. He has also been an advisor to, among others, the European Space Agency, and the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).

In a still uncommon example of a high profile public official successfully combining official duties with engagement with the public via social media, Mr Bildt is also a blogger and Tweeter (with around 119,000 followers possibly the envy of many journalists).

Mr Bildt has never been afraid of airing his views, whether on the Balkans or on Afghanistan. He is one of Europe’s most active and outspoken foreign ministers, perennially engaged with frontline issues and events, and will be coming to Thailand soon after hosting the Stockholm Internet Forum on Internet Freedom for Global Development.

The FCCT is pleased to welcome Mr Carl Bildt; do join us for what promises to be an engaging and provocative evening.
