Typography: a graphic art in its own right
Over the last few years, designers and typographers endeavored to stress the importance and appropriate use of typography, an art for which the general public is developing an appreciation. In visual communication, font design plays a crucial role as it makes it possible to convey much more than words and ideas. In fact, typography can be used by itself to represent an identity, a brand or even an era.

The 2010 symposium: benchmark event in Asia
Last year’s Bangkok International Typography Symposium met with great success, showing Thailand’s interest in typography. Throughout the two-day event, more than 250 people filled the room to capacity: communication professionals and graphic artists as well as amateurs eager to know more. It was the first typography symposium to take place in Southeast Asia, and attracted the attention of many Thai and foreign typographers.

Renown French speaker Sébastien Morlighem
Morlighem studied typography in Paris at the book and visual design school École supérieure des arts et industries graphiques also known as Ecole Estienne. He has been a book and music-album graphic artist since 1995. He also teaches graphic art and typography history at the Ecole supérieure d’art et de design d’Amiens in northern France, an art and design school of which he is co-director. His passion for typography has led him to publish the series “Bibliothèque typographique,” or typography library, which brings out specialized works on those who create typography. His participation in the symposium will enable all those interested in the field to learn more about this art.
